Upon the passing of their great Chief Dog the tribe of dogs gathered to select a new chief. One of the elder dogs rose and asked "How shall we select the new chief ?"
Another dog rose and said "We should have a race and the fastest dog will be our chief."
The elder dog said " But the fastest dog may not be the wisest among us. Just ask He Who Runs Into Tree Trunks"
To this they all agreed.
Then another dog rose and said " Lets choose the bravest among us. We should go to the great high cliff and the first to leap off would truly be the bravest and should be chief."
But then they realized that they would once again have to select a new chief.

Finally the oldest and wisest dog in the tribe rose and said "The dog with the best smelling rear should be chief"

To this the whole dog tribe agreed and so they set out to find the dog with the best smelling rear.
And to this very day they are still searching.
